ONE WAVE AT A TIME
A community surf program making the healing power of the ocean more accessible

WHY THIS PROGRAM EXISTS
Over the years, surfing has become much more than just a sport to me. I believe there’s something deeply powerful about spending time in the ocean.
Through private coaching, surf schools, youth programs, and community volunteering, I’ve had the privilege of working with children and adults from a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences. I’ve had the opportunity to work with people using prosthetic limbs, individuals with a variety of physical and psychological support needs, and students who simply needed a little extra patience, encouragement, or a different approach to feel comfortable in the ocean.
Being part of these surfing journeys has shown me how time in the water can create space for healing, growth, connection, confidence, and joy, and how empowering and transformative that experience can be. They have only deepened something I already believed: surfing can be for everybody, and everyone deserves the opportunity to discover what the ocean and surfing might become for them.
Unfortunately, not everyone has access to that opportunity. Surf lessons, gear, and equipment can be financially out of reach, especially for individuals and families already carrying other challenges.
One Wave at a Time is my way of helping remove that barrier. By donating a portion of my teaching time, I hope to make this experience accessible to people who could genuinely benefit from it but wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity.
This program isn’t just about learning to ride waves. It’s about creating the doorway to the support and space for someone to discover what the ocean might become for them.
WHO THIS PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT
One Wave at a Time is built around a simple idea: that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the ocean as a place of connection, confidence, personal growth, or healing, regardless of their financial circumstances.This program was created for individuals who could genuinely benefit from that experience but would not otherwise have access to it.
It may be especially meaningful for:
Someone carrying emotional or psychological burdens that are affecting their well-being, navigating grief, trauma, or significant life transitions;
People living with disabilities, health conditions, or other unique support needs;
Children from refugee families, particularly those who may benefit from Russian-language instruction and additional support while adapting to a new country;
Anyone who believes that spending time in the ocean could be meaningful in their life journey but is unable to access the experience because of financial circumstances.
These examples are intended as guidance rather than requirements. Every story is unique, and every application is considered individually. If you believe this program could be meaningful for you or someone you care about, I encourage you to reach out.
HOW IT WORKS
One Wave at a Time is intentionally a small program made possible through my personal commitment of time and resources. Keeping the program small allows me to give each participant the care and attention they deserve while ensuring it remains sustainable over time.
LESSON FORMAT
Each lesson is one hour in length and tailored to the individual. Depending on personal circumstances and program availability, participants may be offered a single session or a short series of lessons.
EQUIPMENT
Surfboard and wetsuit are provided.
SCHEDULING
Lessons are arranged around my regular teaching calendar. Days, times, and locations will be limited and vary depending on surf conditions and availability but I'll do my best to find the time that works for you.
COST
Youth under 21 participate free of charge.
Adults are offered lessons at a significantly reduced rate. As the program grows, every adult contribution will go directly back into One Wave at a Time to help make future lessons possible for others.
AVAILABILITY
Because the program is intentionally small, availability is limited. If all current spaces are filled, new applications will be added to a waiting list and reviewed as spaces become available.
My goal is to support as many people as I realistically can while ensuring every participant receives the time, care, and attention they need.
LET'S CONNECT
This is a safe space, and there are no right or wrong answers.
The information you choose to share is not used as selection criteria. It simply helps me better understand your goals and needs so I can tailor the experience to your comfort level, abilities, and the best way to support you.
Built on Trust
One Wave at a Time is built on trust, kindness, and mutual respect.
This program exists because I choose to donate my time, experience, and resources to help create access for people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the ocean in this way. I trust that those who reach out will do so with honesty and consideration, keeping in mind that each space is limited and intended for someone who genuinely wouldn’t otherwise have access to this experience.
Thank you for helping me keep this program rooted in the spirit in which it was created.
